Stanley Rice 1932 - 2022

Griffin Stanley Rice, of Aldie, VA, passed away peacefully at his home on August 11, 2022.

Stanley is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Velma Kestel “Pinky" Rice; and his parents, the late Griffin Thomas Rice and Eunice McFarland; as well as siblings Charles Lucas Rice and Lorraine Rice Schools. He is survived by his daughter Stacey Rice of Bend, Oregon; his grandchildren Thomas Gulick,  Olivia Gulick and Terra Myers, all of Bend, OR; as well as many nieces and nephews and many close friends.

Stanley was born on October 27, 1934, to the late Griffin Thomas Rice and Eunice McFarland Rice of Reedville, Virginia. Stanley’s early life was lived close to the farms of the Northern Neck of Virginia and the waters of the Chesapeake Bay. In the late 1950’s, Stanley made his way to the Middleburg area where he met his wife Pinky while working together on the Virginia Tech Agricultural Research Station. They lived happily in their Aldie home for over 50 years.

Stanley was trained as a mechanic, both on automobiles and aircraft. He completed 40 years of service at Bill Page Honda (Pontiac) in Falls Church, VA.  He retired in 2005 to spend more time supporting Pinky’s catering business and enjoying grandchildren.

Stanley’s love of church could be seen by all who knew him. A trustee of the Aldie United Methodist Church, he was revered for his long standing knowledge of the church and how things operated over time. He had become a Sunday figure, waiting at the door to hand out programs and shake every hand and greet everyone with a smile. Stanley has been a member of the Aldie Ruritan Club since 2016. His devotion to family was deep and he was a true example of a life lived with unmatched poise and grace.

There will be a viewing on Sunday, August 21 at 11:30 a.m at Royston Funeral Home at 106 E. Washington Street, Middleburg, VA 20117, followed by a service there at 12:00 noon. Friends and family are invited to his final resting place at Marshall Cemetery, Marshall, VA. Immediately after the interment, a reception and fellowship will be offered at the Aldie United Methodist Church at 39325 John Mosby Highway, Aldie, VA 20105.

The family has requested memorial gifts be made to Doctors Without Borders, one of the humanitarian aid charities that Stanley supported over the years. https://donate.doctorswithoutborders.org
